QE’s production of West Side Story has now come to an end and the feedback we have received has been overwhelming.
Alongside the all touching words that have been posted on the Queen Elizabeth’s School Facebook Page, we were delighted to have Alice Wright from the Express & Echo review the performance.
Alice said ‘The effort these students had put into everything from the choreography to the accents was immense. Tony’s handsome charm, Marias angelic cheekiness, Riff and Bernardo’s toughness, all came through brilliantly!
The star of the night for me was the performance from Anita, played by Jessica Anez, if she isn’t actually Puerto Rican I will eat my hat! Her voice, dancing and character play was so convincing it would rival most professionals.
With that said, the thing that impressed me the most about the whole performance is how every single person stayed in character 100% of the time - every cast member was truly putting their heart and soul into the performance, and that’s what made it truly magical. it’s a show that has everything and QE did it proud’
An impressed member of the audience said ‘It’s not like a school play at all, it’s like a West End Production’
Whilst Principal Rupert Poole said ‘Another stunning, emotional and apposite production. The performances were powerful and confident from the outset. It is such hard work pulling it all together but the end result is something very special indeed. I know that Vicky Evans, Drama Team Leader and Lucy Welsman, Music Teacher, would be the first to say that it has been a massive team effort, but special credit and a huge thanks must go to them for everything they do, and to everyone involved.’
Congratulations to all who contributed to the show, cast, crew, students and staff. It is safe to say that West Side Story has been a tough act to beat!
