RAF Roadshow – Fun with Flight

On the afternoon of Thursday 11th May, all of QE’s Year 8 students were treated to 'Fun with Flight' a 50-minute jet fueled presentation exploring the physics of flying. Students discovered how the physics they study in the classroom is an integral part of the work that engineers undertake in the RAF.

The RAF roadshow was devised in response to the Government's acknowledgement that there is already a shortfall of ‘home grown’ scientists and engineers to meet the needs of the country and by capturing the interest of young people, they will hopefully increase the numbers that take STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) based subjects. To do this the team used exciting demonstrations including their very own drone, VR (virtual reality) experience and even a mini (but still very loud!) jet engine to show the practical applications of what the students learn in the classroom.

It was clearly enjoyed and appreciated by all and our thanks to the RAF team for a great afternoon.
