Fifty students and staff enjoyed the 2017 Ski Trip over the February half term week. The students ranged from Year 7 to Year 13 and from total beginners to expert skiers who all had a fantastic time in excellent snow and sunny weather.
In keeping with the past 22 years of QE Ski Trips, the group travelled by coach from Crediton to the southern French Alps. They stayed in the village of Guillestre in the very welcoming Hotel Les Barnieres, only 30-minutes away from Risoul, where the group skied.
The Risoul resort has a wide range of pistes for all abilities and several ‘snowparks’ with jumps and slalom courses, allowing students to challenge and improve their ski skills. It also has a record of good snow conditions due to its height at 1850 metres and a superb record for sunshine from its southern location.
Our students made fantastic progress with their skiing over the six days and by the end of the week the beginners were confidently skiing red runs whilst our experienced skiers, who were informally known as ‘the bombers’, were covering the whole resort in great style and impressive speed.
The students all improved their use of French as they ordered their own lunch in the local shops each day where very few people spoke English.
The staff greatly enjoyed skiing with the group of students whose behaviour and attitude was outstanding all week. Mr Box said “It was great to see the different aged students getting on so well together, even on the long journeys in the cramped coach. Our hotelier congratulated us on having such a nice, well behaved group and the ski school instructors commented on what a positive, friendly group of young people we had!”
This trip was the 31st and last to be organised by Mr Box, who has now handed over the organisation and leadership of the 2018 trip to Mr Tearle. Details of that trip will be available later in the school year.
