What is it like?

Boarding at QE is small, friendly, well ordered and relaxed. We have an international flavour in our Boarding Houses and usually have more students joining us for the Sixth Form than for earlier years.

We try to make living in our Boarding Houses as pleasant as possible, remembering that this is a school and that we have to have certain rules in order to get on well with one another. What makes us unique is that our Boarding staff are trained care staff, rather than teachers who look after boarders as an extra responsibility. This means our staff can give all their attention to the needs and well being of our boarders.

The Houses

The Mount is home to the boys. It is set within its own large grounds overlooking the town of Crediton. The Mount is an Edwardian building which has many period features such as wood-paneled walls and external gargoyles. As well as bedrooms, it has some large social and well equipped play areas.

St Martins is the hub of Boarding and is home for all the girls. It is a large house right at the top of the College site. The majority of rooms are en suite and the building houses the main dining room and office.

Mountside is a semi-independent house set in the grounds of the Mount. It is designed to give our Year 13 students a taste of independence within their own living room, bathroom and kitchen. This is a privilege and responsibility that can be earned over time and is much sought after.

Hillbrow is a detached cottage that is used as home for our three Gap students. Each January, we are lucky enough to acquire these students from Australia and New Zealand to compliment the existing staff team and add a new dimension.
