QE Celebrates A Level Results

Crediton students achieve brilliant exam results.

Students and staff at Queen Elizabeth's School, part of the Ted Wragg Trust, have been celebrating exceptional A Level results today (15th August.)

Queen Elizabeth’s Sixth Form has a long history of excellence. Set within the historic College House, separate from the main body of the school, the Sixth Form is a learning environment that fosters and encourages students to become creative and technical intellectuals equipped with the skills needed to thrive at undergraduate level and in employment. The Sixth Form provision is rated Good by Ofsted who noted that the Sixth Form is well regarded by students and parents alike.

Spirits were high in Crediton as over 90% of students who applied for undergraduate degree courses had places confirmed at their first-choice university. A good number of other students plan to travel, go into employment or have gained apprenticeship places locally.

Theo Whish has gained A Levels in law, English Language and geography and will take up a place at University of Cardiff to study a degree in law while Barney Cockings is moving to Japan to follow a languages and general studies course before his degree course in archaeology and history.

Student course choices after A Levels are diverse and range across academic disciplines this year from medical sciences to the arts and humanities. Practical and applied degree training courses remain popular with QE Sixth Formers in everything from musical theatre, physiotherapy to sports coaching and science. University destinations are similarly diverse, with students taking up places from Plymouth to Durham, York and everywhere in between.

Elise Williams, who has studied A Levels in business, geography and photography, will take up a degree in interior design next year at the University of Norwich. Maddie Singleton and Sophie Wallis are both going on to study psychology in Bath. Olivia Howard will be studying marketing at the University of Plymouth and Sophie Hartshorne intends to take up an apprenticeship in law or business.

James Webster, Head Boy at QE said ‘the support and teaching I have had here in the Sixth Form has been excellent – the teachers at QE are brilliant and I’ve had so many opportunities to develop my confidence, academic and practical skills over the course of my A Levels’.

After gaining top grades in sociology, theatre studies and history, James has landed a place on a competitive acting coaching programme and will go on to apply to drama school next academic year.

Paula Smith, Headteacher at Queen Elizabeth’s School said:

“It has been a wonderful morning celebrating the achievements of our remarkable Queen Elizabeth’s students. I am so proud of each and every one of them. This year’s A Level results reflect not only the talent and commitment of our students but also the unwavering support from our dedicated staff and parents. It’s always emotional when students come to the end of their journey with us, but I know those leaving us today are well-prepared for their next steps!”

Moira Marder, Chief Executive Officer of the Ted Wragg Trust said:

“Many congratulations to all the QE students who have achieved such an amazing set of A Level results.  It has been a momentous day and it’s clear how hard both students and staff have worked to achieve such a fantastic set of results.  Whether students are going on to further study, apprenticeships or delving into the world of work, I wish them all the very best for the future. We are so proud of you all.”
